11 Ways To Save Money While Becoming A Pokemon Go Master

August 1, 2016 by Preston Guillot

Pokemon Go is everywhere. Even if you don’t play the game, you can’t escape it. Pokemon Trainers are taking over the world.

Many of you that grew up playing the game might have a hard time putting your phones down. Or maybe it’s your kids that have turned into zombies.

Yes, it’s addicting. You want to catch ’em all. You want to run all of the gyms in your town. And you’re looking for the legendary Pokemon that still haven’t made a big splash in the app yet.

The downside of Pokemon Go (if there is one) is the amount of time some trainers spend in the game. You’re more likely to spend money and you’re more likely to use all of your monthly data when you can’t stop playing.

But there’s good news!

We have some Pokemon Masters here at the office that want to help other Pokemon Trainers play responsibly.

Here are some ways you can save money while playing Pokemon Go:

Use PokeStops And PokeGyms

PokeStops should be your best friend. These locations in the augmented game allow you to collect a variety of items like:

  • Pokeballs
  • Potions
  • Revives
  • Berries
  • Eggs
  • Incense (if you’re lucky!)

Whenever you are at a PokeStop, you should swipe it to collect your free items. Make things easier on you and find areas that have multiple PokeStops nearby.

Another great thing about PokeStops is that you can collect more items every five minutes! So go to a park with multiple PokeStops and take a 30 minute walk around. You’ll have plenty of items to catch ‘em all afterwards. And hatch eggs at the same time!

Going to PokeGyms and leaving your pokemon to guard them is another way to stay away from in-app purchases.

They’re not as great as PokeStops… but they’re easy ways to earn:

  • PokeCoins
  • Stardust
  • XP to level up

Each gym you leave a Pokemon at can pay you 10 PokeCoins and 500 Stardust (you can collect your prizes once every 21 hours). PokeCoins is the type of currency you use to buy items in the PokeShop. Leaving Pokemon at gyms is the only way to get free PokeCoins in the game!

Use WiFi Whenever You Can

You’ll probably find the most Pokemon outside. But you want to limit your time playing Pokemon Go outside.

Pokemon Go can easily eat up your monthly data usage. Before you know it, you’ll be paying for extra data after a week of playing.

It’s important to connect to any WiFi source that’s available to you while playing.

Get Rid Of Apps You Don’t Need

If you’re an avid Pokemon player… start saying goodbye to the other apps that are taking up space on your phone.

Even when you’re not using these apps… you’re likely still using data on them.

Trash them if you can. This will give you more time to become a Pokemon Master each month.

Turn Off Alerts

App alerts and push notifications are a waste of battery and a waste of data. And Pokemon Go drains a lot of your battery and data.

Do you really want a notification each time you run into a Pidgey?

Do yourself a favor and go into your settings to turn off notifications.

Set A Time Limit

We hear about how addicting Pokemon Go is to some of the serious trainers. But life doesn’t stop for your Pokemon addiction.

You still have to think about the other important things in your life:

  • Work/school
  • Significant other/ Spouse
  • Your children
  • Monthly Budget
  • Personal Improvement
  • Personal Goals

You still have to dedicate time to one or more of the items listed above!

Don’t let Pokemon Go take over your life!

Instead, set time aside for the app. Do a Pokemon session in the morning and another one in the evening. Try to limit your game play to 2 hours or less.

And don’t forget about the other things you need to get done!

Use Your Bike

This can be a big money saver on gas. Stop driving to PokeStops and PokeGyms if you can help it.

You shouldn’t play Pokemon Go while you’re driving anyways!

You can kill two birds with one stone with this tip. You’ll save money on gas and expedite the amount of eggs you hatch by riding a bike around town.

Biking 10 km would take less effort and time than it does to walk 10 km. And stop cheating by trying to drive the distance. It won’t count if you’re going too fast anyways!

Hatching eggs fast is a great way to get ahead of the competition. So grab your bike or skateboard next time you decide to go out for Pokemon.

Avoid Injuries And Lawsuits

If you don’t listen to anything else in this article, please listen to these next two parts! Because some things are happening to Pokemon trainers that are incredibly stupid.

Please be aware of your surroundings. Don’t run into people… don’t walk into oncoming traffic… don’t fall off a cliff like these guys…

AND DON’T POKEMON AND DRIVE!

Just don’t do it!

Before the app opens, there is a loading screen that says to “Be Aware Of Your Surroundings”. This warning is for YOU, the pokemon trainer. It’s not meant to be a joke about wandering Pokemon (well, maybe a little).

Don’t go on anyone’s property without their permission at any time of the day. Especially in the early hours of the morning!

Avoid getting shot and avoid breaking any bones. A hospital bill is not worth catching an Eevee for the 331st time.

Avoid Arrests And Tickets

This is a section we thought we didn’t need at first. But apparently people surprised us with their poor lack of judgement again…

But don’t get arrested over Pokemon Go!

Do not enter areas you’re not supposed to be in to catch a Pokemon. Even outdoor places like public parks have closing times. Do not trespass during after hours anywhere.

And if you do… and you’re asked to leave an area…

Please cooperate with police officers!

They’re not writing you a ticket, they’re asking you to catch Pokemon in your own home.

Once again… Pokemon Go is not worth getting arrested over.

Address Productivity Issues Before They Hurt You

We know some people have a Pokemon addiction. But that doesn’t mean you should give in to it completely.

It can kill your productivity level if you’re not careful.

If Pokemon is the only thing on your mind…you’ll never get anything else done!

Don’t forget about getting good grades in school or being a productive worker at the office.

Would failing a class or getting fired be worth all the Pokemon you caught?

Well, it can ending up costing you in the end. Just play smart please!

Become A Pokemon Driver

Are you willing to provide transportation services for other Pokemon trainers?

This can be a great way to save money on being a Pokemon Trainer.

Heck, it can even help you make extra money on the side.

Offer to drive other Pokemon Trainers around town. Take them to the hottest areas of Pokestops and PokeGyms. This can be a huge advantage to take over a gym if you drive around other members of your chosen team.

Just charge a fee for gas and an amount where you know you’ll make a profit. This way you can become better as a trainer and YOU CAN GET PAID.

Just remember not to Pokemon and drive!

Get Paid To Be A Trainer

Getting paid to be a Pokemon Trainer probably sounds like the best job in the world, right?

Well, you’ll never be able to make a decent income off of it…

But you can make some extra money if you’re willing to play for someone else.

That’s right! People are actuallybuying Pokemon Go accounts online!

If you’re truly a Pokemon Master, then why wouldn’t you think about it?

ATTENTION ALL POKEMON TRAINERS:

What level trainer are you?

How many Pokemon have you caught?

What team are you on?

Let’s talk Pokemon in the comment section!
